DISSOCIATE by Vanessa Matthews. March 15 - May 30, 2008
D3Projects at Bergamot Station, CA, is proud to present Dissociate featuring the paintings and installations of Vanessa Matthews (plush dolls developed in collaboration with Nancy Mancini), a Los Angeles based artist. Highly prolific and with an incredibly honest and humorous tone, Matthews brings a new wind of creativity to the ever innovative Southern California art scene with a character based aesthetic of graphic figures and hand-drawn typography. Characters were born out of this process of expressing the artist's pent up aggravation: Parking tickets, road rage, traffic, inflation, ignorance, control freaks and the annoyance of being forced to comply with pointless rules sparked the lives of personalities who could speak her suppressed language. Through the rants of these angry little children, Matthews grants anyone trapped in the confines of adulthood the permission to say all the things that propriety forbids. 

The American Typologies by Pine & Woods. Jan. 5 - Feb. 23, 2008

Pine & Woods have been collaborating on this body of work for eight years.  Inspired by Bernd and Hilla Becher, they have rigorously focused on collecting anonymous snapshots with particular themes in order to compose portraits of American culture.

Vernacular Photography Fair. January 12-13, 2008

D3projects' intention by creating a Vernacular Photography Festival, is too create a visible community of vernacular photography aficionados, from dealers, galleries, to collectors and artists. The public will have the opportunity to discover the realm of found photographs, snapshots or anonymous images, from the 20s until the late 70s.

Jason Lazarus - Recordings. Nov 17 - Jan. 3, 2008

D3projects presents Jason Lazarus' first solo exhibition in Los Angeles, featuring new work inspired by photograhic vernacular. Lazarus has been internationally exhibited, including throughout the United States, Europe, China and Japan. The exhibition will feature a debut installation of Recordings and new images selected from Nirvana.

 

A Found Photo. Sept. 29 - Nov. 13, 2007

D3projects presents a special exhibition of exceptional vernacular photographs from the 40s until the late 70s, offered for showing by a private collector. These anonymous images have been separated from their owners or lost in time. Later, artists, collectors and dealers rediscovered the snapshots in flea markets, estate and yard sales, attics or abandoned boxes on the street. The new owners of these photographs gave them a new life, but also interpreted their enigmatic meaning with their own personal vision. “A Found Photo” features a selection of nearly a hundred color and black & white found photographs. 

For the opening and the duration of the show, the public is invited to bring it's own favorite snapshots and found photographs for d3projects to build a live exhibition, but also an online show.

Michael Scoggins

D3PROJECTS at Bergamot Station, CA, is delighted to present a special exhibition of new work by artist Michael Scoggins. Scoggins’ award-winning work has been exhibited throughout the United States and Europe, and is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. The Artist holds an MFA in painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design. The Scoggins Exhibition will celebrate the launch of the exciting new experimental art space, d3projects at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica, California. The Grand Opening reception will be held Saturday, July 21, 4- 8pm at the d3projects’ Gallery Bergamot Station location, and is by invitation only (please call the gallery for details). This inaugural exhibition will continue through August 31st. Admission to the d3projects Gallery is free and will be open to the public. Gallery hours are: 10am – 6pm, Tuesday through Saturday.
